Deccan Chargers trigger Mumbai Indian Collapse
The match between Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians yesterday was a perfect example of keeping cool in a T20 game. At one stage the Mumbai Indians were heading towards victory while suddenly they lost their cool & were made to taste a tragic defeat. It was an absolute shocker of a game but in the end hats off to the Deccan Chargers who went out with a positive attitude & grabbed the cake from the mouth of the Mumbai Indians by a comfortable 19 runs.
Earlier in the day, Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss & straightaway elected to bat first. As with most IPL innings we have witnessed this season, Deccan Chargers lost Hershelle Gibbs in the very second over of the match on a duck. Later in the sixth over Suman fell to Bravo making 20 off 13 balls. The rest of the batsmen came & went but just managed to score run a ball as the bowling display was somewhat good from the Mumbai Indians who lacked lustre in their bowling department in the previous few innings. At the end of 20 overs, Deccan Chargers reached to a decent 145/6.
Not the biggest of target Mumbai Indians opened & again we got to see the bowling side rejoice. Sanath Jaysuriya got out in the second over & Sachin Tendulkar followed him the very next ball. It was R.P Singh who came blazing to get two much needed wickets for the Deccan Chargers. The delivery to which Sachin Tendulkar fell was a magic ball & the Master Blaster had no clue when his middle stump got uprooted. Then Pinal Shah & J.P Duminy steadied the Mumbai Indians boat until Pinal Shah(29 off 19 deliveries) was dismissed by Suman in the 9th over. At the end of the 10th over things looked perfectly in control for the Mumbai Indians with 71/3.
After the strategic timeout, Dwayne Bravo & J.P Duminy continued to score steadily. From nowhere, Dwayne Bravo lofted Suman but he was caught well by Harris at Long On. Abhishek Nayar came in the middle & was clean bowled by Rohit Sharma. Harbhajan Singh arrived & he too got the same treatment – Bowled off the very first ball. Suddenly Mumbai Indians were seen reeling at 103/6. It felt like someone hit the panic button & all the middle order decided jumped off the boat only to forget that they could not swim. The damage was already done as the run rate jumped rapidly & now it was around 10 R.P.O. Admist all this drama, J.P Duminy could do nothing more than see his team-mates fall like a pack of cards from the non-strikers end. Seeing the heroics of Rohit Sharma, Adam Gilchrist once again gave him the ball in the 18th over & Rohit Sharma again rewarded his captain with two wickets. This time J.P Duminy was caught brilliantly behind the wicket by the Deccan Chargers skipper. With the wicket of J.P Duminy not only the match was over for Mumbai Indians but also Rohit Sharma completed his hat trick. Tiwary was stumped by Gilchrist in the same over. From commanding 71/3 the Mumbai Indians tumbled down to 109/8. The last two wickets failed to budge but in the end Deccan Chargers reached home safely with a margin of 19 runs.
All credit for this emphatic win goes to Rohit Sharma for his wonderful bowling & for his small came with the batting too. Undoubtedly he (Rohit Sharma) was adjudged the Man-of-Match. For Mumbai Indians it was really tragic. Earlier too they had succumbed to close defeats & this time it was somewhat similar. They have nobody except themselves to blame for this defeat. They need to rethink on their strategies & all the players in the team needs to know that they should play their roles to their best of abilities. By far, this was the most tragic turnarounds in this year DLF IPL.
