Kolkata Knight Riders drown under Mumbai Indians Sunami

The moment for which people so anxiously waited for finally arrived last night. Sachin Tendulkar & Sanath Jayasuriya – Two Legends of Cricket got going which led to the defeat of SRK’s Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai Indians won by a margin of 92 runs after Kolkata Knight Riders were put to chase a target of 188 runs.

Sachin & Sanath - Mumbai Indians

Earlier in the day after winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar promptly took the decision to bat first. The sky was clear in Port Elizabeth but no sooner it got covered with cricket balls. Sachin & Sanath got in groove & started murdering (Any other term would mean too less) the Kolkata bowling attack. The Kolkata Knight Riders seemed clueless as their pacers and spinners both couldn’t provide them with early breakthroughs. It was a sheer class displayed by the two legends. The duo didn’t resort to playing slog shots but all of their shots were proper cricketing strokes. Sachin Tendulkar maneuvered the ball brilliantly & some of his strokes were undoubtedly of sheer excellence. Due to this blitzkrieg from Sanath Jayasuriya & Sachin Tendulkar, Mumbai Indians scored 111 off their first 10 overs without losing any wicket.

After the strategy break, the tide somewhat turned in Kolkata’s favor as they succeeded in getting 3 quick wickets. This came as a consolation for KKR since the damage was already done. Surprisingly Harbhajan Singh came in after loss of first wicket & scored a cameo of 18 runs of just 8 balls. The next batsmen too scored at a brisk rate & finally Mumbai Indians tally got bundled for a mammoth 187 runs.

Everybody knew if Kolkata had to win this one their top players – Chris Gayle & Brendon Mccullum should fire. Brendom Mccullum failed & was dismissed very early with just six runs on the board. Chris Gayle showed a hint of promise but was dismissed soon after. After the two early dismissals, Saurav Ganguly & Brad Hodge played cautiously to build a 50 runs partnership. Just then, Sachin Tendulkar strucked gold when Abhishek Nayar got the wickets of both the batsmen. After they were removed, Mumbai Indians seemed in total control. The run rate jumped above 15 RPO & it was tough ask for the tail enders to manage such a high run rate. Eventually, Lasith Malinga stormed in with his scorching Yorkers which struck the timber both times in succession. The Kolkata Knight Riders breathed their last & drowned under the huge barrage of 188 runs. They lost the match by 92 runs. It was “korbo lorbo harbo re” for the KKR & SRK as both were seen utterly dejected & battered.

It was a day which Mumbai Indians will relish forever while Kolkata Knight Riders would like to brush it off as a nightmare. One couldn’t blame Kolkata’s bowlers since when you are bowling to the best of the batting world’s you are bound to be slaughtered. The win saw some fireworks being lit here in my area. I enjoyed the match thoroughly & just hope the next time I could do it together with my close friends. At time, the Mumbai Indians seemed to be getting in the groove as they are performing well in all the departments of the game. Each player is performing due to which the team is independent on a single player. I just hope the Mumbai Indians continue their winning spree in the next games & reach the finals of the IPL 2.
