Mumbai Indians take revenge against Kings XI Punjab
The match no.42 in the DLF IPL 2009 between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab was a crucial one for both the teams to inch one step closer to a place in semis. Both the teams after losing way, have been returning to win their last match in this encounter. It was going to be a game of wit along with sheer ability. But in the end, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in what one thought would be a closely fought game.

Winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh the skipper of Kings XI Punjab opted to bat first at Centurion today. Earlier in the day, the bruised Kolkata Knight Riders managed to put on a excellent show with the bat & went to score their best 174 in DLF IPL 2009. Kings XI Punjab hoped to follow in the same way, but to their irony, the batting order fail to budge today. Other than the opener Sunny Sohal (43 runs off 23 balls) none other managed to occupy the crease for more than a while. The Punjab batsmen struggled to get going under disciplined bowling of Harbhajan Singh, Jean Duminy and Lasith Malinga. Other than Yuvraj Singh (12 runs off 18 balls), Karan Goel (20 runs off 21 balls) & Sunny Sohal none other player in Kings XI Punjab camp got in double figures with the bat. This saw Kings XI Punjab managing just 119 in their alloted 20 overs. In reality they got bit help of 19 runs from the extras which Mumbai Indian gave away.
Scoring 120 was always going to be a piece of cake with just 6 R.P.O. Mumbai Indians Opened the batting with Sanath Jayasuriya & Dwayne Bravo. Other than the early dismissal of Sanath Jayasuriya & Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai Indians showed no mercy to Punjab lacklustre bowling attack. For Defending such a low score was always going to be tough task & Kings XI Punjab failed to do so. Their bowlers struggled to get wickets as they were seen being hit out of the park very often. An over by Sreesanth saw Bravo extracting 21 runs after which Sreesanth obviously did not get to bowl. Dwayne Bravo (70 runs off 59 balls) & Sachin Tendulkar (41 runs off 29 balls) joint venture of 50 runs from 37 balls saw Mumbai Indians in just 16.2 overs. The Mumbai Indians will rejoice this victory over their other since they had been earlier disappointed on a numerous occasions by Kings XI Punjab. The cause for this loss was total failure in the Kings Xi Punjab camp – First getting just to 120 & then with disappointing with the bowling too.
The day belonged fully to the Mumbai Indians. Batting, Bowling & Fielding – They came solid in all the areas & truly deserve the victory. Man-of-Match went to Harbhajan Singh for his excellent figures of 4-0-9-1 which set the tone for Mumbai Indians earlier in the day. This Victory rockets away Mumbai Indian to 4th spot from 6th while Kings XI Punjab take to the 7th position. This victory was truly valuable & it was Mumbai Indians who are now on a roll. Watch out for them, they have the power to take revenge from their opponents.
