Biohazard 4(Resident Evil) – PC Game Guide

Playing Biohazard 4(Resident Evil) on pc and having tough time navigating through? You don’t have any clue about which keys perform which action in game? Want to optimize the game graphics? Want some tips & strategies? If your answer to any or all of the above question is yes then read ahead.

Keyboard Configuration

Being a hapless PS2 port, Biohazard 4 disappoints big time in controls. The game requires you to press certain keys to perform some special actions. The keys flashing on your computer screen during game are in no way directly related to your computer keyboard. To add to your trouble list, the game ditches your faithful mouse. So you will have to do all shooting, running, dodging all by your keyboard. Moreover the game publishers pack the console manual with the PC edition which is useless. To help you with the controls, I am listing all the commands you will ever need to play biohazard 4 comfortably.

Here are some key configurations which will help you play the game with great ease.

Basic Controls:

Move Forward – W

Move Backward – A

Move Left – S

Move Right – D

Run/Cancel – Right CTRL

Knife – Left Shift

Take Aim – Right Shift

Fire/Confirm – Enter

Inventory – I

Map – M

Special Controls:

1 = Left CTRL

2 = F

3 = Enter

1 + 3 = Left CTRL + Enter

5 + 6 = Left Shift + Right Shift

Perform Shake off = S + D

Command Ashley = F

Rotate item in Inventory = Right Shift

Move item in Inventory = F

The above controls should allow you to master the game in spite of absence of mouse. Also when you perform actions like shake off, climb edge etc (One key actions) then do not press the particular key just once, keep hitting it repeatedly or else you will most likely die.

Configuring Game Graphics & Controls

The game doesn’t provide you to configure the graphics & remap the keys straightaway. To configure them, navigate to C:\Program Files\CAPCOM\biohazard 4. In this folder you will notice a SetupTool. Upon launching it, you will be provided with the configuration window. Here you can set the resolution, game mode, widescreen but shockingly the game doesn’t provide you with options to set Anti-Aliasing, Texture Quality, Shadows etc. In this tool you can even configure your GAMEPAD or remap your keyboard keys as per your preference.

Tips & Strategies

These tips & strategies will help you a lot to improve your chances of winning every battle in the game.

1) Biohazard 4(Resident Evil) has positional damage means the intensity of damage depends on which area you hit on the enemy’s body. Hitting on the head ensures maximum damage while on leg will make enemies slump down in their tracks. Aim at the arms will make the enemies drop their weapons.

2) Beware of the man with a chain saw. Kill him before you proceed to kill other foes. His one swipe of the chain saw & your head is off with a fountain of blood. To kill the chain saw guy, throw a grenade & then give him some punches with your shotgun. Always strike him from a distance.

3) During cut scenes don’t relax, many in game cut scenes demand you to perform some swift actions. You can relax during cut scenes then be prepared to bang your head in frustration.

4) When you reach the midway in the game invest in a Rocket Launcher. It will help you save lots of ammunition. Most of the big bosses can’t hold fort against this mega weapon. If you don’t have money to get rocket launcher make sure you get grenade launcher.

5) Hit open the wooden boxes, jars etc. They contain ammo, treasures, gems, health and other useful items. Some boxes have snakes which pounce on you when you hit open them. The snake won’t take much of your health but you will benefit by gaining a lot of health by killing the snake which gives you an egg.

6) At certain stages in game you will encounter crows. When you see a flock of them, pull out your shotgun & fire at them. You will be rewarded with some gems which can be sold off to merchant to buy whatever you desire.

7) Instead of hopping around with bagful of weapons, just keep one gun of each type & upgrade it. It will save your precious money & inventory space too.

8 ) When any of your foes start taking away Ashley hit them in their legs & they will drop her down. Don’t aim above as the chances of accidently killing Ashley increase. She can’t even survive a shot from your handgun, so be careful.

9) Mix Red + Green + Yellow herbs to get a full health boost. You can combine in any order & you can even use two herbs in combination.

Conclusion

Biohazard 4 is an excellent game when you take game play into the account. By following this guide, you will play like a pro & will be at ease throughout the game levels. So what are you waiting for go ahead, enjoy the game & do write me back in case you discover some new Strategies & Tips/Tricks for Biohazard 4.

    @Manoj – You will have to survive the encounter. The only way to do this is to be always on a run & fire pausing in your steps. If you go near any of the zombies a kick button glows up. Take advantage of that & you can kick three enemies with a single kick at times. Also aim for the head since it imparts a far greater damage than aiming on legs or hands. If the zombies have any weapons(sickle) or dynamite aim for hands to make them drop it.

    I didn’t used any cheats for the game but you surely can get them over the net with a simple Google search. I recommend lowering the expertise level to beginner if you’re not able to proceed in the game than using cheats.

    @chiru – You can always use Google to find them out : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=biohazard+4+cheat+codes&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1

    Frankly speaking you will kill the fun of this game by using cheats.

    hi gaurav…. resident evil 5 has released for pc have you play this game.can you please tell me how is the game is it better than re4?
    and where have you bought it pls tell me”’

  22. October 13th, 2009 at 23:14 | #22

    @Nitish – I am not in a position to try out the new Resident Evil 5 due to my outdated computer but as far as the reviews go, its is rated as a good game. Not better than Resident Evil 4 though. Resident Evil 5 scores heavily in graphic department but the gameplay isn’t challenging like Resident Evil 4.

    And I love Ada wong

  34. November 16th, 2009 at 22:47 | #34

    @Biohazard 4 Gamer

    1) 1+3 is Left CTRL + Enter

    2) To kill the chainsaw guy take out a powerful weapon like the shotgun & blow a shot or two in the head of the chainsaw guy.

    3) I think reloading weapon is done by R but I’m not sure since it has been a long time since I played this game.

    gaurav how to reload?

  41. December 2nd, 2009 at 01:21 | #41

    Haven’t played Biohazard 4 but it looks and sound like a game to put on my “conquered list”. I am really impressed with the evolution of home gaming systems, mainly the PC. Arcades as we use to know for those growing up in those days, are long gone. I use to believe there would never be any gaming system that would rival the arcades. Long live PC gaming and all other gaming systems for in home entertainment.

    I recently reinstalled re4 on my new OS and have copied the saveData file from my old install into the new re4 directory, but the saved games don’t appear under load game. Load game is empty. Am i supposed to install the saved games somehow or should they just be there. I’ve searched everywhere for an answer but can’t find one. Any help would be appreciated.

  43. December 2nd, 2009 at 17:07 | #43

    @E Stephens – You must definitely try out Resident Evil 4. It is recommended to all gamers.

    @Choppa – I think you cannot backup file of Resident Evil 4 Biohazard. Still I’m not sure. Will notify you if I get something about this.

  45. February 8th, 2010 at 16:36 | #45

    @Raman Sharma – Update “Direct X” on your system. Then it should work fine. If still try in compatibility mode(windows XP) under Windows 7.

    where to type cheats yaar

  47. February 18th, 2010 at 14:57 | #47

    @amit – Its a bit tricky to use cheats in this game as there seems to be no console. An online search even did not yeild any positive results. It would be better if you complete the game without cheats. Its challenging but not impossible.
