Torrents have changed the way we share files online. Due to torrents, it has become really simple & hassle free to share files. Torrents have become popular means of downloading data than downloading from direct mirrors. When it comes to downloading torrents on computer, many softwares come to mind viz utorrent, transmission etc. But what would you do if you need to download torrents on your symbian smartphone? Your hands must have been itching to harness the huge memory of your phone. Until now this was impossible as there wasn’t any application written to download torrents on Symbian OS.

Enter Symtorrent. Symtorrent is the first & currently the only Bittorrent client for Symbian mobiles. As per their site, Symtorrent is capable of downloading & uploading at the same time and also has the ability to save unfinished torrents. It also gives you numerous nifty options like previewing file properties, downloading multiple torrents, graphical representation etc. Symtorrent is currently available for s60v3 and s60 v5 smartphones.

User Interface:

As with most of the symbian applications, Symtorrent too excels in providing a clean user interface. All the options are neatly tucked inside the settings & are self explanatory.

Performance:

Inspite of being a mobile application, it’s usability or performance is outstanding. After opening a torrent file, symtorrent does a file hash check(Can be disabled). If it is successful, it then connects to the tracker and starts downloading your file. You can even download any particular file contained within a torrent having several files. Symtorrent even warns you when your phone has less space than the file you wish to download. I tested Symtorrent on my Airtel GPRS and it functioned without any hiccups. It had no problems downloading big files. It means you can download any big file, the only limiting factor is the space on your memory card. One feature of Symtorrent worth mentioning is the auto exit. By this, the application exits in case it is unable to establish connections or when a file has no peers. Downloading multiple torrents works well too.

Memory(RAM) Utilization:

Symtorrent consumes just 2 MB of phone’s memory. This is good as it leaves ample memory for multitasking.

Final Verdict:

No prizes for guessing. User friendly, robust and beautifully designed – leaves no place for complaints. I truly recommend Symtorrent to ever torrent junkies out there. The app works beautifully & doesn’t have any flaws at all. The icing on the cake – Symtorrent is totally free. It is licensed under GPL. Good for all those Open Source lovers out there.

Go ahead, start torrenting !!!
