Two years with Nokia 5700 Xpress Music

Two years ago, exactly on 2nd December 2007, I purchased my dream phone – Nokia 5700 Xpress Music. Being a power user I needed a feature packed phone in a budget of Rs.10,000 & at that time the Nokia 5700XM fit the bill perfectly. The day when I got this phone was very special as I the decision to purchase was taken without any prior thoughts.

Nokia Img Exchange – Cool Image Viewer

Symbian OS rocks when it comes to user friendliness & usability. The Symbian application repository is huge & is expanding day by day thanks to the developers all around the world. I am always on the hunt to try out new applications for my Symbian Smartphone, looking if they can boost my productivity or expand the capabilities of my Symbian Smartphone. My recent hunt was to find such an application for Symbian s60 v3 which will let me view the Images stored on my smartphone with style. I was pretty much bored with the default Gallery application & needed something snazzy like the N-Series or the HTC touch FLO interface. My hunt ended after I got to Img Exchange – An application from the Nokia developer’s Beta labs. I tried it on my Nokia 5700 XM which runs on s60 v3 FP1 OS & here is a small review of the same.

NGAGE 2.0 – Gaming on the move

Mobiles have become truly convergent devices. Though the primary use of mobile is communication but now people need their phone to do everything their pc does. It is highly impossible for these mobiles to challenge today’s multi core computers but they aren’t lagging too far. Mobiles today have ample power to do almost any task which you will need on your move. It can play music, surf the web, click HD pics etc. But for gamers, mobiles didn’t delivered. Gamers needed some good games, but didn’t got them. They needed good graphics but their wish again wasn’t fulfilled.

But now, Gone are the days when you were limited with playing some crappy java games on your mobile phone. Gone are the 2D games with mediocre graphics. You might think I will be telling you about the next gaming mobile, but that’s not the case here. I am talking about NGAGE 2.0

NGAGE 2.0 is the next generation gaming platform released in the midst of 2007 by Nokia. It is a successor to their popular gaming device NGAGE QD which ran the NGAGE 1.0. NGAGE 1.0 was device integrated but the newer 2.0 isn’t. It works on myriad N series devices & also on non N-series devices by some hacking. NGAGE 2.0 is available only for s60 v3 and not for earlier versions of Symbian OS.

I installed NGAGE 2.0 on my Nokia 5700 a couple of weeks ago. Being non compatible with NGAGE, I had to first hack my device. After sometime NGAGE 2.0 was up & running. The NGAGE 2.0 is designed in such a way that it helps to keep your offline cum online stats in sync. You can even play games online with other players; it just requires you to have an internet connection on your device. I encountered some minor issues during online play, but still it wasn’t that bad. I enjoyed it a lot.

If you do not have an Internet connection on your mobile then you need not to worry. NGAGE offers a wide range of single player games which are highly enjoyable. I had fun playing them on my commute, in my free time and even between lecture breaks in classes. The games look very good and the sound good too. I recommend you play them with your earphones.

Some NGAGE 2.0 Games, I highly recommend :

1) Resident Evil – Degeneration

2) Space Impact – Kappa Base

3) Mile High Pinball

4) Metal Gear Solid

5) Asphalt 3 – Street Rules

6) Crash Bandicoot – Nitro Kart 3D

7) Fifa 09

The games are highly addictive, so it’s recommended to play safe or else get ready to miss a lot of deadlines. Go ahead, Game On !!!
